Duan Wu Festival Celebrate Duan Wu festival at Shang Palace to commemorate the life and death of Qu Yuan, a highly respected Chinese advisor to the Emperor, who died by drowning himself in 278 BC to protest the destitution of his country. As a well-loved poet in his village, the villages tried to save his life by throwing zong zi (rice wrapped in bamboo leaves) into the river where drowned in order to keep the fishes away.
