World Energy Forum 2012 Supports The Dubai EXPO 2020 Bid
The Higher Organising Committee of the World Energy Forum 2012 (WEF) has announced its support for the Dubai Expo 2020 bid under the theme ‘Connecting Minds, Creating the Future’. The forum, hosted for the first time outside the United Nations headquarters in New York City, will be held at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre from the 22—24 October 2012 under the theme, ‘A Forum for World Leaders’. This support will entail providing information, leaflets, media content, and ad space at the forum’s venue, which will feature a large number of ministers, ambassadors, media, and officials from both public and private sectors.
“The WEF 2012 represents a great opportunity to support the Dubai 2020 Expo bid, especially with the common themes of clean energy and water, transportation and logistics, and economic development. The forum will discuss a proposed energy sustainability road map benefiting all nations and promoting a new culture for sustainability of global energy, which supports the world economy and all member states of the United Nations; providing a joint international platform towards a cleaner and safer energy supply for humanity,” said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Vice Chairman of The Supreme Council of Energy and Vice Chairman of the WEF 2012 Higher Organising Committee.
In November 2011, the UAE submitted its official bid to host Expo 2020 to the International Exhibitions Bureau (BIE) in Paris to compete for the world event scheduled between 4 January and 30 June 2020. The UAE is proposing to host the six-month exhibition at a 438-hectares plot to be built southwest the city of Dubai, adjacent to Dubai World Central, which will host the new Al Maktoum International Airport.
