Dubai Municipality To Verify Gold Weight Accuracy In Jewelleries
Dubai Central Laboratory in cooperation with Emirates Authority for Standardization and Metrology would start the verification of accuracy of measures and weights of gold in Jewelleries in the Emirate of Dubai by early 2012 according to the agreement signed between the Authority and Municipality.
Hawa Bastaki, Director of DCL said that agreement comes as part of the cooperation between the civic body and the Authority, and their keenness to ensure the safety of measuring instruments in accordance with the mandatory requirements as well as to achieve the necessary consumer protection supporting the national economy.
"The Municipality deals with the large segment of society. It has the infrastructure, qualified staff and laboratories, winning international accreditation in a number of metrological areas," she said and added "DCL has been authorized for the verification and inspection of measuring instruments of weigh machines. Pre-packed cases, registration of maintenance and repair areas and installation of measuring instruments will be inspected in accordance with the mandatory requirements".
Municipality will issue verification certificates in accordance with technical regulations and procedures approved by the Authority. The Authority will issue verification signs and seals bearing the logos of both parties, which shall be fixed on the measuring instruments according to technical regulations and procedures. Gold traders should know the required specifications of measuring equipments. In the cases of violations, jewelleries must take rectifying actions.
