Cinema Akil
An animated fantasy adventure from Germany, Cinema Akil brings us this enchanting tale from 1926, a rare chance to see the oldest surviving animated film in the world. The film features a ground-breaking silhouette animation technique pioneered by director Lotte Reiniger, who worked with several famous avant-garde animators on the film, including Walter Ruttmann, Berthold Bartosch, and Carl Koch. At 24 frames per second, each individually filmed, the painstaking production took three years to complete. It was lovingly restored in 1999. Watch as our eponymous hero, handsome Prince Achmed, rides a flying horse to far-away lands and embarks on magical adventures. We see him befriending a witch, meeting Aladdin, battling demons and falling in love with a princess. Enjoy the story at Cinema Akil's new permanent screening space in an Alserkal Avenue warehouse.
