Marks of China: Exhibition of Valuable Rubbings of Chinese Cultural Relics
An exhibition of rubbings taken from cultural relics dating from the Han and Tang Dynasties of China, between 1500 and 3000 years ago, will go on display at the Gallery of Light in DUCTAC, Mall of the Emirates this week. Marks of China, which is organised by the Beijing China Painting & Calligraphy Collectors’ Association, will open at 7pm on Wednesday 13th June. Rubbing - an ancient Chinese skill - makes it possible to create exact copies of the characters and patterns on gigantic cultural relics. With the help of special paper, rubbing allows the charms of ancient Chinese arts to be displayed in a clear, accurate, and vivid way. This method is widely used and has allowed these ancient relics to be viewed and appreciated by a worldwide audience. It is now one of the key methods for the circulation, research and collection of Chinese cultural relics and has become a valuable form of documentation of the cultural heritage of China.
