• Oman Workshop Promotes Sharjah Tourism, Events

Al Noman: More than 54,000 Omani tourists visited the emirate in 2011

Oman is in Sharjah’s sights. The Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority in collaboration with Air Arabia organised a workshop yesterday (Monday, July 2) in the Omani capital, Muscat, for representatives of leading tourism agencies and media to brief them on the emirate’s tourism sector and the various international events and festivals organised in the emirate. The country’s leading tourism players and media representatives attended the day-long workshop.

On this occasion, the SCTDA Chairman Mohamed Ali Al Noman stressed on the significance of the Omani feeder market in boosting tourism in the region. He said that such annual workshops and road shows help in fuelling the tourist inflow into the emirate. The SCTDA Chairman said that 54,794 Omani tourists visited Sharjah last year whereas this year the emirate has already received 42,824 Omani visitors. “This confirms the positive impact of such initiatives by the Authority in the region,” Al Noman added.

There is tremendous potential for Sharjah’s unique tourism product in the Omani market,” said the SCTDA Chairman referring to the fact that Oman is the second biggest tourism market of the emirate after Saudi Arabia. “This is due to many factors mainly the common borders with the Sultanate and the ease of transportation between the two countries, not to mention the shared culture, history, and traditions.”

The UAE tourism market figures among the top preferences of the Omani tourists, especially families and shoppers. The Sharjah Summer Surprises and Ramadan and Eid Fair are great options for Omani tourists to visit Sharjah this summer. The numerous traditional souqs as well as modern malls and hotels with affordable prices offer great deals for all visitors, said the Sharjah officials in their briefing before an audience of around hundred representatives of Oman’s tourism and hospitality sector.

The Sharjah delegation made a detailed presentation on the emirate’s tourism product, highlighting the latest developments in the tourism sector and the SCTDA’s busy calendar of events and festivals this year.

In recent months, the SCTDA has organised several road shows in the Gulf, including in Kuwait and Qatar organising workshops for hundreds of representatives of the travel and tourism industry. The delegates were given a bird’s eye view of Sharjah’s tourism market including the numerous cultural festivals and promotions organised throughout the year.
