Environment Agency - Abu Dhabi Makes Latest Data Available With Enviro-Portal
The Environment Agency - Abu Dhabi (EAD) today launched its Enviro-Portal - a website that features the latest environmental data and information on the geographic distribution of flora, fauna, marine habitats and protected areas in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.
The announcement was made during EAD’s participation at the ESRI Middle East and Africa User Conference (MEAUC) on geographic information system (GIS) technology solutions, which is being held in Abu Dhabi at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition (ADNEC).
Using state-of-the-art GIS technology, EAD’s bilingual Enviro-portal gives users access to spatial environmental information that agency has been collecting since the early 1990s. The portal includes information that would be particularly useful to environmental consultants, government stakeholders, academics, the public, as well as EAD staff in making better informed decisions.
"The portal is easy to navigate through, and we believe it is a great tool to raise environmental awareness and give users a better understanding of the geographic distribution of our rich biodiversity," said Dr Richard Perry, Executive Director.
The portal also allows users to select specific areas and download different sets of environmental layers such as mangroves, corals, species distribution, habitats, soil suitability, etc. in various GIS formats. The portal is available at: http://enviroportal.ead.ae.
