Media Alert: Zayed University Student Wins Inaugural Christo And Jeanne-Claude Award
A mirage-inspired art installation has been selected as the winner of the inaugural Christo and Jeanne-Claude Award, an annual award presented by the NYU Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) Institute in partnership with the Abu Dhabi Music & Arts Foundation (ADMAF). Maryam bint Sultan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, a fourth-year art and design and visual arts student at Zayed University, designed the winning installation artwork. The work was selected from 26 entries submitted by UAE-based university students and recent graduates, representing 11 nationalities.
The winner will use the award grant to produce the artwork which will be displayed in Abu Dhabi in March 2013 and then toured around the UAE. The Christo and Jeanne-Claude Award, which is under the patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Shamsa Bint Hamdan Al Nahyan, was established to encourage and celebrate creative art in the UAE. Other notable award finalists were: Nikolai Kozak (NYUAD), Suheyla Takesh (Al Ain University), Farah Al Qasimi (graduate), and Sarah Al Hosani and Khawla Al Mureikhi (Zayed University).
