The St. Regis Saadiyat Island Resort, Sowwah Square, Nike Golf and Dubai Eye on board as new partners
As the European Tour-backed Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship readies for its eighth outing at Abu Dhabi Golf Club this weekend, Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority (TCA Abu Dhabi), the tournament organiser, has unveiled a host of major new sponsor partnerships.
“The fact the Championship is now at a level to attract globally-recognised brands and leading local companies is a testimony to its success,” said Faisal Al Sheikh, Events Manager, TCA Abu Dhabi.
“When the world is lining up to support you, it means you are on the right path. We are energised by our new partnerships and are excited about growing the Championship even further in future years.”
Heading the bill of new sponsors is the luxury five-star St. Regis Saadiyat Island Resort - the Championship’s official hotel partner. As part of its platinum sponsor deal, the Mediterranean-inspired Saadiyat Island retreat will award a five-night stay in the Royal Suite for any player who sinks a hole-in-one on the 12th hole during the January 17-20 tournament. The Royal Suite, at 2,000sqm and spread over two-levels, will be launched early this year and is anticipated to be amongst the largest in the world.
The resort, which lies on a nine-kilometre stretch of environmentally-protected beach, will also offer one night’s stay with a complimentary spa treatment for the best dressed female crowned during Friday’s Ladies Day activities while offering several other exciting prizes at its stand in the exhibition village. The resort’s guests can also enter the Championship for free by showing a hotel room key or official hotel voucher.
In addition Sowwah Square – the heart of Abu Dhabi’s new Central Business District (CBD) – will provide their support to this year’s Championship as gold sponsor and official real estate partner. Modelled on the world’s leading mixed-use 24-hour CBDs, Sowwah Square has fast established itself as a thriving business hub with over 40 blue chip tenants including Accenture, Booz & Company, Clifford Chance, GE Corporate, JP Morgan, Linklaters, Norton Rose, Société Générale and White & Case establishing their presence in the districts international Grade A office towers.
“Mubadala Real Estate & Infrastructure (MREI) is proud to support the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship as it continues to make impressive strides in defining the Capital as an international destination. With the steady growth of Sowwah Square’s tenants, alongside the opening of The Galleria at Sowwah Square and Rosewood Abu Dhabi later this year, it is key for us to establish synergetic partnerships which strengthen this
evolving Central Business District (CBD) and social hub. The game of golf is a long-established business tool for professionals and we are confident that this partnership will provide unique opportunities for Abu Dhabi’s new CBD, in addition to offering complimentary amenities for our partners, tenants and the local community. We are also delighted that our valued Sowwah Square tenants will join us at the Championship”, commented Ali Eid AlMheiri, Executive Director, MREI.
Global giant Nike Golf is the Championship’s new official apparel supplier. In addition to a 150-metre” retail shop in the heart of the Championship Village, the number 1 apparel brand in golf will provide innovative, stylish, all conditions kit, packed with performance and technology, for more than 400 volunteers and event staff during the Championship.
“We have come a long way as an authentic golf brand in a short space of time and this partnership clearly shows that fact,” said Angus Moir, Nike Golf general manager EMEA. “We are delighted to be able to provide the very best apparel to the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship.”
Elsewhere, Dubai Eye 103.8, the UAE’s leading talk radio station, has signed on as official radio partner. As well as broadcasting all the tournament action live from the Championship Village, Dubai Eye’s roving reporters will provide interviews with players, insights from organisers, expert analysis and up-to-the-minute results from every fairway, bunker and green on the National Course.
The raft of new sponsors adds to a rapidly growing list of local and international brands supporting the Championship, which cemented its position as the region’s leading tournament when TCA Abu Dhabi inked a five-year title sponsor agreement with HSBC in 2011.
Other official sponsors include Etihad Airways, the UAE’s national carrier, as official airline partner. Etihad Airways are offering their Etihad Guest members complimentary tickets to the Championship by showing their membership card on entry.
Cadillac, as automobile partner, Xerox, as document management provider, CNN, as television partner, and Rolex, as official timekeeper complete the sponsor stable.
Official partners include Gulf News as the official newspaper, Motivate publication Golf Digest as official magazine, Bioderma as official skincare partner and The Entertainer magazine.
Daily entrance to see the ‘Giants of Golf’ starts at just AED 50, with a four-day pass costing AED 150. Tickets are also available via the event’s official website www.abudhabigolfchampionship.com as well as www.timeouttickets.com.
