Philips Showcases Energy Efficient Innovations At World Future Energy Summit
With its mission to improve the quality of life through meaningful innovations, and the vision to strive for a healthier and more sustainable world, Philips Electronics Middle East showcased its innovative Energy Efficient Lighting solutions for healthcare, office, industry and outdoor applications at the World Future Energy Summit 2013 held in Abu Dhabi between 15-17 January.
World leaders, international policy makers, industry leaders, investors, experts, academia, intellectuals and journalists converged on the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC) to discuss, debate and display the latest innovations in advancing future energy, energy efficiency and clean technologies.
Philips has long recognized the need to address climate change through advancing energy efficiency, and has been doing so through its innovations such as Intelligent Lighting controls that automatically switch lights off when the space is empty, and adjust lighting levels based on the amount of natural light deliver people benefits, and can improve the energy efficiency of buildings by up to 70% per year.
With the per capita electricity consumption in the GCC due to increase at an annual rate of 2.5% during the period of 2007 to 2035†, Philips believes it’s imperative that governments collaborate with private businesses in order to reduce the impact on the environment, as well as human health.
Lighting contributes to 19% of the world’s electricity consumption; however this can be significantly reduced by switching to energy-efficient LED lighting solutions. Taking the application of Road Lighting as an example, moving from traditional sources like high pressure sodium or metal halide lighting to LEDs coupled with intelligent controls such as Philips CityTouch, allows municipalities and road authorities to save up to 70% of its energy costs and reduce carbon emissions.
In 2013, Philips Lighting will install its first LED Road Lighting in the UAE in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, where 1,100 new LED street poles will be erected to help the emirate achieve its objectives to significantly reduce lighting consumption over the next 20 years.
