Sharjah To Ring Out The Popular Event With Firework Display
After days of endless fun and festivities wowing both young and old, curtain comes down on the water-themed entertainment extravaganza Sharjah Water Festival 2012 tomorrow (Friday, December 21). It has been one long ride of thrills and excitement as the emirate’s most popular annual festival once again brought together the best and brightest performers and artistes from around the world.
The sixth edition of the Water Festival, hosted by the Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority, will sign off in style with another breathtaking firework display. The festival organisers said that tomorrow may be the last opportunity for all those who haven’t still had the opportunity to visit Al Majaz Park, the venue by Khalid Lagoon in Buheriah Corniche.
Tens of thousands of families from across the country and the region have been thronging the Park since the festival opened earlier this month. In addition to major attractions like the much talked about Russian Circus on Water and shows like the Ohmies American Musical, Mouj Fantasy, Sinbad’s Adventures and an array of puppetry and animation performances, the festival boasts of a large play area with some great rides and thrilling games for the young and more adventurous.
The SCTDA successfully integrated internationally celebrated shows and artistes with local traditions to come up with a world-class event. The Authority has emphasised that the objective of organising the Sharjah Water Festival year after year is not merely fun and games but to boost the tourism sector and the economy in the emirate. Tourism is directly linked to the economy and helps generate greater opportunities for everyone. At another level, it is a celebration of Sharjah and the UAE and Emirati culture, traditions and family values. Not surprisingly, Sharjah, the Capital of Arab Tourism 2015, enjoys the reputation of being the Emirate of Festivals and attracts tourists from around the world.
Meanwhile the much loved Water Festival mascot, Mouj, celebrated his sixth birthday Tuesday evening with great fanfare on the Mouj Island main stage at Al Majaz Park, surrounded by his young children and families.
The Sharjah Water Festival, being held from 6 to December 21, began on an exciting note with the thriller of UIM F1H20 World Powerboat Championship held in Khalid Lagoon attracting more than 75,000 motorsport enthusiasts and spectators.
