Sorbonne Abu Dhabi University committed to Sustainable Development
Paris-Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi celebrated the inauguration of its Sustainability Team platform on its Al Reem island campus.
This initiative was created by the students council and a group of students of Master’s in International Law specialization in "Sustainable Development" for the whole of the University body, aiming to raise awareness about the importance of sustainability in the strategic vision of Abu Dhabi’s development, both economic and environmental.
The launching event opened with a short filmed projection on the experience of the sustainability team field trip to Kenya, visiting among other sites, the National Park, the Kenya Wildlife Institute and Lake Nakuru. These highly motivated Master’s students met environmental scientists who shared their experience in using natural sciences knowledge to protect the environment versus societal transformation.
The evening continued with the inauguration of the ’Sustainability Tent’ or ’Majlis Al-Istidama’, where a lecture was conducted by media consultant Mohammed Al-Qudsi, who described Late Sheikh Zayed directives in the field of Environmental Sustainability.
This tent will serve as a majilis to host discussions about Abu Dhabi’s Economic vision first priority: "Building a Sustainable Economy".
Prof. Dr. Eric Fouache, Vice-Chancellor of Paris-Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi said, "We believe in our students potentials and such gatherings cannot but help fostering the international cooperation in global sustainable development. We are convinced by the central role of education in promoting sustainability. Our students are showing much interest in this field and we are here to support their initiatives."
