Red Bull Car Park Drift Brings The Action Back To The UAE
Al Ain to Host the UAE Finals on Friday 22 February
The UAE is gearing up to host the national final of Red Bull Car Park Drift, for the fourth consecutive year. After bringing the action to the drifting scene in the region for the past 3 years, the thrilling drifting event makes its comeback to the UAE, and more particularly to Al Ain.
Sponsored by Chevrolet and with the support of The Abu Dhabi Department of Municipal Affairs, Al Ain City Municipality, Bridgestone and Total; the UAE’s Red Bull Car Park Drift is taking over Al Ain Airport’s car park, on the evening of Friday 22nd February. Engines were already on for the preliminary qualifying rounds last weekend in Abu Dhabi Yas Marina Circuit on Friday, followed by Umm Al Quwain in the Motorplex the following day, to reveal the most skilled drifters who will be competing for the title of “UAE King of Drift”.
“We are very thrilled to host the first stop for Red Bull Car Park Drift 2013 in the UAE”, said Alberto Chahoud, Regional Communications Manager at Red Bull Middle East & Africa. “Through the collaboration with great partners like Chevrolet, we are able to come back bigger and stronger, in support of the local talents throughout the UAE.”
Abdo Feghali, Rally Champion and Red Bull athlete will support the drifters’ as the performances are evaluated by panel of judges including CEO of Prodrift Academy, Graham Mac Namara and Senior Instructor at the Yas Marina Circuit, Sam Zian. The evaluation will mainly assess the drift competence presented by the drifters in their modified cars, through the use of hand breaks and exertion of outstanding skills to take on turns in the most dazzling and accurate ways. In addition, judges will consider the engines’ sounds and car appearance as well as the smoke produced by the friction of the tires.
Commenting on the action was World Record Breaking Red Bull Athlete, Abdo Feghali “I am so excited about the first 2013 Red Bull Car Park Drift in the region; UAE really is the best place to start! I can’t wait to see all the new cars and talents, as well as some old friendly face from previous years!”
Red Bull Car Park Drift 2013 will kick off in the UAE and also land in KSA, Oman, Jordan, Egypt, Bahrain and Lebanon. The current form of the competition arrived in the Middle East six years ago, before gaining regional fame and exposure two years later. This sort of competition started in Japan back in the 1970’s based on the idea of competing in a parking lot, before developing into a fully fledged international event.
Two time defending Champion Ahmad al Ameri, who represented the UAE in the final competitions in 2011 and 2012, will also participate in this year’s event against other drifters excited to showcase their skills in the art of car drifting on Friday; in the search to find the new King of Drift.
