Abu Dhabi Festival Theatre Workshops Bring Shakespeare To Abu Dhabi Schools
Globe Theatre Workshops Kicks Off Abu Dhabi Festival’s Education Programme
The Globe Education theatre company led an in-school workshop yesterday, as part of the Abu Dhabi Festival’s focus on education and community outreach.
Abu Dhabi students have responded overwhelmingly to Globe Education’s electrifying rendition of Romeo and Juliet, running nightly from March 3-5 at Abu Dhabi Theatre. The show is a fresh, vibrant take on the beloved tragic play, specially adapted for young audiences experiencing Shakespeare’s work for the first time.
The workshops, the first of many education events scheduled throughout the festival’s four-week run, aim to deepen young people’s knowledge and appreciation of Shakespearean theatre. Supported by an interactive website www.playingshakespeare.org which provides in-depth resources for both students and teachers, participating schools can continue exploring the iconic Shakespearean text when they return to the classroom.
Globe Education is a world-renowned theatre education and Shakespeare study centre that provides workshops and seminars for 100,000 students annually, from pre-school to university levels. This is the third Abu Dhabi Festival for the company, following on the massive success of Macbeth (2011) and A Midsummer Night’s Dream (2012).
The next educational events at the 10th Abu Dhabi Festival will be a series of workshops and in-school performances with The Declassified chamber music ensemble, which will culminate in a public performance by young Abu Dhabi musicians on March 9, ’Young Artists’ Day.’
