The Sharjah Light Festival 2013 wraps up tonight on a high note with a spectacular lights-and-colours extravaganza at 14 locations across the emirate in a tribute to its celebrated Islamic architecture, monuments and tourist attractions. The SLF 2013, hosted by the Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority from February 7 to 15 at 14 landmarks, has attracted a large number of visitors and tourists to the emirate.
The breathtaking symphony of lights and colours and fine feats of artistic and technical wizardry have dazzled and enlivened Sharjah’s dreamy and fragrant evenings.
With the Sharjah International Airport being one of the 14 venues, the airport building has been turned into a stunning, sparkling jewel with a rare blend of urban aesthetics and menagerie of lights and colours giving the visitors to Sharjah a slice and foretaste of the Light Festival as soon as they land.
International tourists and regional visitors to the emirate have been delighted with the SLF offerings and presentations this year, highlighting the emirate’s cultural heritage and achievements. The visitors to Sharjah during the Light Festival have received a rare peek into the history of the emirate and the region with the spotlight being trained on the Emirati and Arab affinity with the sea and the whole culture associated with it.
With the Khalid Lagoon hosting multiple SLF locations, the whole area of Buheirah Corniche has been glittering and abuzz with activity attracting thousands of families and visitors in evenings. With Al Majaz Waterfront, Al Majaz mosque and Al Noor mosque constantly changing colours and acquiring new avatars of light, the waters of the Lake have been shimmering casting a magical spell on the onlookers. With floodlights forever chasing each other in the sky and waters of the Lagoon, the whole area is all lit up.
The Central Souk has again been witnessing lots of activity and people. The pearl show and special performances involving sea creatures are part of the attraction here. The Courthouse Complex on the Creek side reflects itself in the waters and creates a magical effect with its medley of colours and changing patterns.
The Sharjah Hisn (fort) is another remarkable attraction. The performance here includes interaction with the public giving the audience an opportunity to be part of the design and art with the help of computer tablet devices kept in the foreground. The show starts when the spectators draw design or change the structure of the building appearing directly on the front of the fort.
The spectacular visual effects and fusion of lights and colours at the Cultural Palace Square, Kuwait Square and Consultative Council Roundabout leave the spectators spellbound.
Al Qasba, the main venue of the festival, has again been a hugely draw and popular among the young and old with its recreation of the past and the atmospherics of the sea and all with the sea creatures and melodies on the outer and inner facades of the cultural and touristic hub.
For the first time the East Coast became part of the SLF itinerary drawing the world’s attention to the natural beauty of the region. Omar Bin Al-Khattab mosque in Khorfakkan and the urban masterpiece of University of Sharjah campus in Kalba have been transformed by the medley of lights and colours, highlighting the grandeur of Islamic architecture and accuracy of design with the help of modern technology and lighting.
The last night of the SLF 2013, which was launched on Thursday, February 7 in the presence of His Highness Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, promises to end on a grand note with the best of the best kept for the last at 14 landmarks across the emirate.
