Al Ain Zoo Participates In Earth Hour And Spreads Conservation Message To Visitors
Zoo launches wider campaign for visitors to participate
As part of its commitment to conserving the environment, Al Ain Zoo today announced its participation in Earth Hour on Saturday 23rd March 2013 from 8:30pm to 9:30 pm, with a wider on-site campaign that encourages visitors to participate as well.
An annual event, Earth Hour aims to protect the environment, reduce global warming and regularise electricity consumption by switching off lights. Observed worldwide, the event is a collective measure to raise awareness about climate change, positive environmental practices and the importance of conserving energy.
Marking the Earth Hour occasion, Al Ain Zoo will be advocating all visitors to partake in spreading the message of energy conservation. Staff will be distributing candles, offering raffle prize draws for those that complete a pledge form to participate, and promoting the cause on the zoo’s loud speakers.
Commenting on Al Ain Zoo’s participation, Muna Al Dhaheri, Acting Chief Conservation & Education, said:
“Al Ain Zoo is committed to environmental protection and preservation, and our participation is aligned with this, allowing us to enlighten the public about climate change in an interactive manner that sees participants become part of an international community united in one cause. We are proud to play our role in this initiative and look forward to engaging visitors in these efforts.”
Al Ain Zoo is a proud member of the World Association for Zoo and Aquaria (WAZA) and is actively involved in several internationally coordinated conservation projects and works with other like-minded organizations such as Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi, The Species Survival Commission, San Diego Zoo, Edinburgh Zoo, World Conservation Union and Species Survival Commission, the Northern Rangelands Trust of Kenya and the Sahara Conservation Fund to conserve and re-introduce threatened arid land species such as Arabian Oryx, Scimitar-horned Oryx, giraffes and gazelle.
