Dubai Internet City Sponsors Broadband MEA 2012 for Fourth Consecutive Year
Event Expected to GatherOver 1,000 Decision Makers
Dubai Internet City today announced it will sponsor Broadband MEA 2012, the region’s premier internet communications eventfor top-level executives and industry experts.
Scheduled to be held in Dubai between 25-27 March at the Westin Mina Seyahi Beach Resort and Marina, the fourth edition of the event is expected to attract more than70 speakers and host over 50 operator case studies. Prominent speakers from organisations such as Google, Al Jazeera and Universal Music will offer keynote addresses during the event, which is organised by ITM Events and registered a massive 76 per cent operator attendance in 2011.
As a key highlight, the eventwillfeaturethe first edition of the ‘Rural Broadband Summit’. The segment will seekto address issues affecting the growth of broadband technology in the region such as making high-speed internet accessible in rural or less developed areas.
The ‘Executive Summit’that will be held on 26 March and themed ‘Convergence: Ensuring Co-Existence and Sustainability’willhighlighthow Middle East operators and decision makers ensure co-existence between fixed and mobile markets as well as fibre rollouts and LTE deployments.
Majed Al Suwaidi, Director, Business Development, Dubai Internet City and Dubai Outsource Zone, said: “The emerging markets in the Middle East and Africa that are registering an increased uptake of smartphones, tablet PCs, eReaders and other portable devices present a strong growth opportunity for broadband service providers. This is in-linewith the global trend where the telecommunication services industry has movedaway from simple voice calls to data and video services.
“Furthermore, global mobile service penetration is now reaching around 80 per cent in rural areas. It is indeed timely that an international event such asthe Broadband MEA 2012 closely examinesthe regionalrural market, which holds much growth potential in terms of broadband services.”
The recently-published report on the global telecom services market carried out by Global Industry Analysts Inc. has revealed that the worldwide telecoms industry is expected to grow to US$1.8 trillion by 2015. This surge is expected from a strong demand from Asian economies, as well as further infrastructure development and demand for next generation services. The report also showeda marked shift to mobile network services as opposed to fixed line in addition to the deployment of more sophisticated data-based services.
