TRA Sponsors Dubai Police’s ’Security Education Week’
In a move that demonstrates the organisation’s continued commitment to safeguarding children’s online presence in the UAE, The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) sponsored ‘Security Education Week,’ organized by the Community Services Department of the Dubai Police and running from 31st October to 1st November. The event, which took place at Zayed University in Dubai’s Academic City, saw delegates from across the globe participate in a week of talks and workshops focused primarily on the safety of elementary school children.
“The world is becoming increasingly interconnected and it is difficult to overstate the importance of teaching children safe online practices,” said HE Mohamed Nasser Al Ghanim, TRA Director General. “Everyone who uses the internet should be aware of the risks involved and children are no different in this regard. This reality highlights the importance of working collectively to tackle cyber security issues and the exposure generated by the ‘Security Education Week’ will certainly help the cause.”
The Security Education Week held a series of workshops for elementary level school children from approximately 50 private and international schools on a variety of topics. Internet safety was one of the focal points of the activities, in addition to fitness, road safety highlighting the importance of seat belts, nutritional health, environmental protection and basic overall healthy lifestyle habits.
The Safety Education Program is a larger awareness project continually hosting similar events as part of an on-going effort to safeguard the community. This Dubai Police initiative links schools across the emirate and campaigns for students to foster and nurture a lifelong commitment to the community by promoting skills, healthy attitudes, and good habits that encourage responsible behaviour throughout the different stages of their lives. This program was launched in 2001 and is growing steadily with the aim to expand its scope to all 227 schools in Dubai reaching over 221,000 students.
aeCERT aims to support the nation’s ICT infrastructure and protect it from cyber-attacks by building a secure and safe cyber culture, fighting cybercrime while promoting safe online behaviour.
