Atlantis, The Palm Welcomes Elderly People Registered With CDA’s Weleef Programme
Atlantis, The Palm welcomed a group of elderly people, who are registered under the Weleef programme of the Community Development Authority, as part of the Family Fun Day activities it hosted to mark the 41st UAE National Day celebrations.
“The public and private sectors are joining hands in the UAE National Day celebrations, which is an opportunity to express our loyalty to the wise leadership and our founding fathers, who have played a key role in driving the growth of our country. We thank Atlantis, The Palm for hosting the elderly people, as part of its commitment to corporate social responsibility initiatives,” said Ms. Mariam Hamad Al Hammadi, Director of Elderly services at CDA.
The Weleef program aims at including Elderly in the society by insuring their participation in all celebrations and public events such as the National Day. The elderly accompanied by their caregivers and relatives were welcomed with traditional oud and rosewater before enjoying a range of UAE-themed family friendly activities for all ages including the opportunity to enjoy local UAE cuisine, UAE themed murals, henna painting and informative talks on UAE aquatic species.
The Lost Chambers delighted the elderly with unusual salt and fresh water attractions and an amazing aquatic eco-system never before seen in the Middle East.
This visit was part of the UAE-themed Family Fun Day organised by Atlantis, The Palm. The elderly had a good time, sampling traditional UAE dates, listening to UAE folklore and watching cultural activities. They also had the opportunity to observe local marine species such as rare Hammour, sharks, eels, rays, piranhas, hundreds of exotic and tropical fish.
“It’s very important we try to focus on preserving the local marine species of the UAE,” said local Conservationist, Rima Jabado, who has been working to raise awareness of the plight of many local species. “We need to celebrate the native species of the UAE and focus on responsible fishing and stock replenishment so we can make a positive impact on numbers. We congratulate the important role CDA has played in supporting the community, especially the elderly.”
