RTA 16Th Online Number Plates Auction Proves A Big Hit

The 16th Online Number Plates Auction recently launched by the Licensing Agency, Roads & Transport Authority (RTA), through its website has proved hugely popular among various nationalities and community members of all ages who fancy acquiring distinguished licensing plates. About 201 number plates were listed in the Auction, comprising J, K, L and M coded plates offered for bidding over three days resulting in total proceeds of AED922,600.

Mohammed Abdul Karim Nimaat, Director of Vehicles Licensing, RTA Licensing Agency, said: “Online auctions capture the attention of a wide spectrum of community members who are enticed by such auctions as they find it highly transparent & credible in offering selection of numbers in a way compatible with their liking and preferences. Particularly as this sort of auction offers them added comfort and fun in obtaining their fancied numbers in a speedy & hassle-free environment.

“Online auctions contribute to realizing our cherished objectives of providing broad-based & comprehensive services to customers; which warrants us to stage them frequently during the year. This service of selling licensing plates is still fascinating to customers, offering them a highly competitive format in a level playing field with equitable & multiple chances,” explained Nimaat.

“The concerned staff at the Number Plates Section are keen on striking a balance between supply & demand in a way responsive to the needs of the market & clients through listing four, and five-digit vehicle plates whose availability is highly probable.

“The plate “L 5112” was the sale topper fetching AED15,100 dirham, followed by plate “K 1312” which was sold for AED13,600, while the plate “K 1235” was exchanged for AED13,000,” he added.

“The 16th Online Auction was all success and proved instrumental in illustrating the importance of such auctions for us in the Agency. As such, we have had a clear vision of the need to carry on with the practice in order to satisfy the wishes of this segment of customers who are concerned with Online Auctions more than Open Auctions. Accordingly, the forthcoming 17th Online Auction will be held in January 2013,” said the Director of Vehicles Licensing in a closing statement.
