Liberty Technician Wins First Place In GM Middle East Technician Skills Competition
Service technician Gayan Perera of Liberty Automobiles -- the Cadillac and Chevrolet dealership in the UAE -- was declared Best Dealer Technician in the annual General Motors Middle East Technician Skills Competition which concluded recently at the Dubai Autodrome.
Gayan, who also excelled in last year’s competition by winning second place, was presented with the award by John Stadwick, President and Managing Director of General Motors Middle East, at the awards ceremony held at the Hard Rock Café Dubai.
“The performance of Gayan Perera reflects the importance Liberty Automobiles attaches to advancing our technicians’ skills for service and maintenance of GM vehicles. We are proud to say that Liberty Automobiles strictly adheres to the General Motors service motto ’Fix It Right First-Time.’ We are delighted that our technician Gayan outperformed the best GM technicians from the Middle East region,” said Duncan Peat, Managing Director of Liberty Automobiles.
Gayan was later congratulated for his achievement at a function hosted by Sheikh Khalid Abdul Aziz Al Qasimi, Chairman of Liberty Investment Company, holding company of the Liberty Group, and attended by senior officials of Liberty Automobiles.
The GM Dealer Technician Skills Competition, first held in 2008, is the largest competition of its kind carried out by General Motors globally. Some 2,000 dealer technicians entered this year’s competition and after two initial tough rounds that included theoretical and practical tests, 40 best of the best technicians were shortlisted for the two-day finals to put their skills to the test in front of 51 judges. After a series of stringent tests in diagnosing, repairing and correcting vehicle systems, the top 10 winners were chosen, with Gayan being ranked first.
