Dubai Convention Bureau And The American University In Dubai Seal Local Host Agreement
DCB and AUD win bid to organise 2014 World Engineering Education Forum
The Dubai Convention Bureau (DCB), a division of the Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM), yesterday held a press conference to announce winning the bid to host the ‘World Engineering Education Forum’ in the emirate of Dubai, which is scheduled to be held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum, the Crown Prince of Dubai, from 3-6 December, 2014. During the press conference, which was held on the 11th of December at the Jumeirah Creekside Hotel, DCB and the American University in Dubai (AUD) entered into a ‘local host agreement’ with the aim to collaboratively organise the event.
The agreement was signed in the presence of HE Khalid Ahmed Bin Sulayem, Director General of DTCM, Elias Bou Saab, Executive Vice President of the American University in Dubai, Dr John Beynon, Chair-Elect of the Global Engineering Deans Council, Dr. Hans Hoyer, Executive Secretary of the Global Engineering Deans Council, Dr Jose Carlos Quadrado, President of the International Federation of Engineering Education Societies (IFEES), and HE Engineer Essa Al Maidoor, Director General of Dubai Health Authority and President of Society of Engineers - UAE.
The terms of the agreement stipulate the responsibilities of each party in relation to the preparation of the organisation of the World Engineering Education Forum, as well as specifying the tasks of each party in order to ensure the success of this important event. The agreement also states that the official opening ceremony of the Forum and its associated social activities will be sponsored by the Dubai Convention Bureau.
Commenting on the agreement, HE Khalid Bin Sulayem said, “The World Engineering Education Forum, which attracts over 1500 participants from over the world, is an international event and a unique gathering of renowned figures in the field of engineering, as well as those who work in engineering education.”
Bin Sulayem stressed that such events and activities constitute real platform to promote the emirate of Dubai, "There is no doubt that the Dubai Convention Bureau continually seeks to attract and host important events in line with DTCM strategy. DCB aim is to promote Dubai’s position as a favourite and pre-eminent tourist destination at various levels by focusing on incentives travel, conferences, exhibitions, and special-event markets, thereby boosting the prospects of the Emirate’s economic growth," he remarked.
Commenting on this collaboration, Elias Bou Saab said "The American University in Dubai is delighted to work with the Dubai Convention Bureau in hosting and organising this important forum, which aims to enhance cooperation between various engineering-related education parties and associations. It also aims to bring together the highest quality engineering-education processes available throughout the world to secure the global supply of engineering graduates. The forum will help strengthen the role of member organisations in terms of their abilities to support universities, colleges and students, as well as enhance communication between engineering graduates and international companies looking for under-trainee engineers," Bou Saab added.
HE Engineer Essa Al Maidoor said, “Society of Engineers – UAE’s vision is “Towards Best Engineering Practices in the UAE”; such global events will further enhance the presence of Dubai on the academic arena in general and engineering in particular. It will open opportunities for future agreements between several parties in Dubai and the world that will serve engineering education in the UAE and provides jobs for engineering graduates in our country. If we will give importance to the engineering education, we can assure of the development of our nation."
