• Gulf Super Sixes’ Super Sixteen Teams To Commence Knockout Stages On Thursday

After two weekends of intense competition at the 2012 Gulf Super Sixes, the top 16 teams will now compete in the knockout rounds on Thursday 13 December 2012 at the ICC GCA grounds at Sports City in Dubai, UAE from 12:00pm to 8:00pm.

Organised by Crayons Communications in association with Gulf Oil and Landmark Group, the UAE’s largest corporate cricket league is held under the auspices of the Dubai Sports Council and the Dubai Cricket Council.

Fly Emirates, Phoenix Medicine, Afridi Transport, NMC, DXB Lions, Al Fara Group, Yogi Group and Danue - all of who qualified last weekend - will join Fly Emirates Colts, Seven Seas Strikers, Wings XI, Bryne Equipment, Anchor Marine, Globelink Westar, Desert King Water Proofing and Wings Warriors to form this year’s Super Sixteen teams.

Arshad Zaheer, CEO of Crayons Communications, said: “All of the 48 teams that have competed so far have shown tremendous drive, passion and true love for this sport. We would however like to take this opportunity to congratulate the Super Sixteen teams for a remarkable display of cricket these past two weekends. We can now expect to see an even higher level of competition and performance this Thursday, as all of the qualifying teams know that half of them will not make it to the next round of this corporate cricket tournament.

“Furthermore, among the Super Sixteen teams are the defending Super Sixes champions Yogi Group. If they win on Thursday, they will be one step closer to become the first team to not only win the championship twice, but do it back-to-back as well.”

The final eight teams that will remain from these super sixteen teams will have an international cricketing legend assigned to them to compete for the coveted Gulf Super Sixes championship the following day.

Legends en route to Dubai and gearing up to compete in the quarter-finals, semi-finals and finals of the Gulf Super Sixes on Friday 14 December 2012 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium in Sports City, include: Wasim Akram, Chaminda Vaas, Shaun Pollock, Jonty Rhodes, Salil Ankola, Nayan Mongia, Mohammad Shahzad and Ijaz Ahmed.
