Dubai And Ecuador Make Concerted Bid To Boost Bilateral Trade
Ambassador thanks DED for facilitating the opening of PRO ECUADOR in Dubai
Dubai and Ecuador have decided to work closely to boost bilateral trade and enable businesses on both sides to leverage existing and potential opportunities. The Department of Economic Development (DED) in Dubai has also supported PRO ECUADOR, the overseas Trade and Investment promotion organization of Ecuador, in opening its UAE office in Dubai.
Their Excellencies Sami Al Qamzi, Director General of DED, and Kabalan Abisaab, Ecuador’s Ambassador to Qatar, recently had a meeting to discuss means to promote bilateral exchanges and areas where DED and PRO ECUADOR can work together.
“Economic engagement between Dubai and South America is growing exponentially. In the case of some South American countries, trade with Dubai has grown over 170 per cent year on year in 2011. Ecuador is one of the best performing economies in Latin America, developing fast links within the continent. Dubai is keen to set up a solid platform for trade and information exchange with Ecuador,” commented Al Qamzi.
A leading agricultural producer and exporter, Ecuador also has some of the best transport and communication facilities in Latin America. Various ambitious infrastructure projects have also been launched in the country and the government fully supports private investment in infrastructure, clean energy and other high technology areas.
“Ecuador understands the significance of Dubai and the UAE as a regional hub and we can be a good source market for diversified products. As one of the most environmentally diverse countries in the world, Ecuador can also attract a major share of the tourist traffic from this region and the UAE,” the Ecuadorean Ambassador said calling the opening of PRO ECUADOR is a significant step towards active mutual engagement.
The Ambassador also expressed his gratitude to DED for expediting the setting up of PRO ECUADOR in the UAE and leading initiatives to familiarise local businesses with opportunities in South America.
Dubai Exports and Dubai FDI of DED have conducted back to back trade missions to Latin American countries as part of efforts to boost trade and investment between the two nations.
“PRO ECUADOR is keen to work closely with DED in order to build and enhance trade and investment between our two nations. This office will assist Ecuadorian businesses to use the UAE and particularly Dubai as a hub for the Middle East North Africa and South Asia (MENASA) region and we are also eager to develop mutual investment opportunities,” said Hussam Hassan, Commercial Director at PRO ECUADOR in the UAE.
Hassan added that his office will work to organise trade missions between the UAE and Ecuador and connect government agencies as well as private sector enterprises and entrepreneurs on both sides.
