Thousands Throng Al Seef Street To Welcome Dubai Shopping Festival 2013
Thousands of visitors from all ages and nationalities thronged Al Seef Street to welcome the opening of DSF 2013 with tourists and residents marveling at the diverse and remarkable activities that were held to usher in the 18th edition of DSF.
Commencing with the vibrant and colourful parade of DSF Carnival, Al Seef Street was filled with the fascinating sights of hundreds of performers including jugglers, stilt walkers, unicyclists, and musicians showcasing the festive feeling of DSF and reflect the DSF theme of “ONE WORLD – ONE FAMILY – ONE FESTIVAL”.
Ranjith Nambiar, a Dubai-based resident originally from Kerala, said: “We have observed a few editions of DSF, but I must say that this opening was one of the grandest we have ever seen.”
He was visiting the Al Seef Street that night with his wife Nitya and daughter Sreelakashmi, and they were really astounded with the opening round of festivities.
“The entertaining parade gave life to Al Seef Street, and I am sure that all of us here watching would agree that the decorated floats as well as international performers in themed attire and inflatable costumes are indeed amazingly world-class,” he said.
The visiting tourist from India, Brijesh Sampat, was also among those who witnessed the opening of DSF at Al Seef Street. Brijesh, who was with his niece Bikshit, commented: “DSF is doing a great job with this kind of festivities. These are the types of events that tourists like me would want to see in a destination. Without doubt, DSF has helped in making Dubai one of the best fun destinations in the world.”
Aside from the frolic that DSF Carnival provided during the opening of DSF 2013 at Al Seef Street, guests also had the chance to watch an incredible fireworks display by the Dubai Creek. The wonderful skyline along the city’s lifeline, the Dubai Creek, was lit up by sparks and showers from fireworks shows, which will continue every evening during the festival at the Al Seef Street area. Celebrating Dubai’s vibrancy and spirit with a rain of multi-coloured sparkles, the Dubai night sky comes alive with some of the best pyrotechnics from world-renowned experts.
Josef Weber and Valentine Marande, tourists from Germany, were impressed by the activities that unfolded at Al Seef Street. “This is my first time in Dubai, and I am wonderfully surprised to see this type of merry-making in the street. It is an enjoyable experience for me,” said Josef.
His friend Valentine added: “The fireworks display over the creek was just a breathtaking sight. It made Dubai’s skyline even more beautiful at night”.
Al Seef Street, at the heart of Dubai, has been always one of the attractions during the festival. Besides the customary floating restaurants, stage and roaming carnival performances, food kiosks and inflatable corner for children that are in offer every season, Al Seef Street this DSF will witness the addition of DSF Carnival, World of Souvenirs and Tea Oasis.
The exciting events at Al Seef Street were certainly drawing repeat visits from among residents and visitors. The Dubai-based Rezek family, originally from Syria, concluded: “We have been in living in Dubai for more than eight years. We always come to Al Seef Street every DSF. The activities here are just delightful – there are so many things to do, a lot of great buys and of course, the performances and fireworks display make it a bonus during each visit.”
This DSF, Al Seef Street will continue to offer plenty of fun and excitement from January 3 to February 3, 2013, from 5pm until 10pm daily.
