Omar Khairat Regales Music Lovers At DSF 2013 Concert
Music lovers in Dubai were regaled by some soul-stirring melodies last Friday, as one of the masters of the Arabic music scene, Omar Khairat, gave a performance befitting the occasion of the 18th Dubai Shopping Festival.
At a concert organized by K Music and held at the World Trade Centre’s Sheikh Rashid Hall from 9pm on the second day of DSF 2013, Khairat was welcomed on stage with a standing ovation – the first of several to follow – from the throng of fans who packed the auditorium in anticipation of some mouth-watering musical fare.
And the great maestro did not disappoint. Khairat is one of the most applauded and influential composers and pianists in the Middle East and a master of both classical and modern musical expression. Noted for bridging Middle Eastern and western approaches to music he brings a western harmonic flair to classical Arabic melodies, which was in ample evidence at the Dubai concert as he presented some of the best known classics from his oeuvre of compositions.
The applause did not stop all evening as Khairat and his troupe presented some of his best works of beautiful, innovative symphonic music, as well as a surprise composition especially on Dubai.
The large audience comprised music lovers from all over the Arab world, especially from Egypt - as well as many from beyond the Arab world - who went home extremely happy and in the elevated mood that Khairat’s sublime music induced in them, marking a concert that was a huge success and an apt musical beginning to DSF 2013.
