ZEE Aflam To Mark MENA Television Premiere Of English Vinglish
Zee Aflam, the first Pan-Arab 24-hour free-to-air Bollywood film channel dedicated to Arabic audiences, will mark the Middle East North Africa (MENA) television premiere of the critically acclaimed Hindi film, English Vinglish, on January 19, 2013.
Starring the award-winning actress Sridevi, marking her comeback to Bollywood after 14 years and to Tamil cinema after 26 years, the film also features French actor Mehdi Nebbou, Adil Hussain, and Priya Anand, with guest appearances from Amitabh Bachchan and Ajith Kumar.
The film follows the story of the protagonist, Shashi Godbole, a quiet, sweet-tempered housewife, who endures snubs from her well-educated husband and daughter every day because of her inability to speak or understand the English language. To prove her mettle, she enrols into a learning course anonymously hoping to grasp the language, and surprises them with her extensive knowledge.
Placing an emphasis on the quintessential struggles of a woman to gain respect from her family and the acceptance of society, English Vinglish also brings to light the can-do spirit of a woman who is willing to go above the call-of-duty for the sake of her family. The film received a standing ovation upon its premiere at the 2012 Toronto International Film Festival, hailing the title as the ‘must-watch’ film of the year.
The film will air on 10pm KSA Time. Zee Aflam is available to audiences in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and in the United Arab Emirates on Nilesat and Arabsat. For more information, please visit HYPERLINK "http://www.zeeaflam.com" www.zeeaflam.com.
