Dubai Events and Promotions Establishment (DEPE), an agency of the Department of Economic Development, honored the winners of the DSF 2013 Journalism and Photography Awards at a ceremony on February 3, 2013, that was attended by His Highness Sheikh Majid bin Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum, Chairman of Dubai Culture and Arts Authority.
The Awards Ceremony that was held at the Madinat Jumeirah was also attended by senior officials including H.E. Laila Mohammed Suhail, CEO of DEPE and Mr. Ibrahim Saleh, Festivals Coordinator General, DEPE in addition to local, regional and international media.
Starting with the national anthem, followed by a documentary showing the highlights of DSF 2013 that reflected the festival’s marketing slogan of “Dubai at its Best”, the awards ceremony also featured the Black Light Show – a breathtaking performance fusing the interplay of light with dance, costume, theatre and choreography using innovative techniques and technology, which gave a flavor of what DSF is all about – a platform for innovation and out-of-this world experiences.
Speaking at the occasion, H.E. Laila Mohammed Suhail, CEO of DEPE, said that the Awards ceremony celebrated the conclusion of yet another edition of Dubai Shopping Festival, the local brand with global reach and impact, which has become one of the leading festivals in the world attracting millions of visitors in each edition.
The DEPE CEO said the Festival “carries the recipe of success within its name, for Dubai has become associated with success and achievement, and any initiative or project that carries the name of our beloved city is sure to deliver the promise of Dubai in the best possible way”.
“Today, we draw down the curtains on the 18th edition of this magnificent festival, and looking back, we are indeed very pleased with what the event has achieved across the years. Since its first edition in 1996 and up to 2012, Dubai Shopping Festival has managed to attract around 46 million people that spent more than a whopping AED 110 billion, and it has registered more than 50 records in the Guinness Book of World Records. Undoubtedly, DSF raised, and continues to raise, the bar of excellence in the festival industry to new heights with each edition, significantly contributing in awarding Dubai the ‘World Festival & Event City’ award for 2011 and 2012,” Ms. Suhail said.
Commenting on the special role played by the media in promoting the festival and praising the media’s work in capturing the essence of DSF through their words and lenses as exceptional, the DEPE CEO said: “We are here today to thank you, knowing that our appreciation will always fall short of reaching the levels of hard work and commitment that you have put forward in your path to cover DSF and carry its main messages to audiences within and across the borders. Every day, when we read the newspapers, watch TV or listen to the radio, we feel like you all are working with us hand in hand, in our offices, planning with us and making sure that together we ensure the success of DSF and deliver on our promise to the public.”
“We are here today also to underline the solid bond that ties the Government of Dubai with all Media mediums. A relationship that is based on unparalleled transparency and freedom of speech set by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai,” she added.
