DEWA Completes Its ’Neighborhood Campaign’ To Raise Awareness On Power And Water Conservation
As part of its commitment to promote environmental awareness among all segments of society to drive the sustainable development of Dubai, and in line with its vision to become a sustainable world-class utility, the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has rolled out the 4th cycle of its ‘Neighborhood Campaign’ which aims to raise awareness about the importance of energy and water conservation, and protecting the environment.
The campaign will include a series of field visits by a dedicated team of experts from DEWA to residential areas across Dubai. A bus has been specially designed for the visits, during with the experts will share tips and guidance to community members on ways to rationalize electricity, water consumption, and adopt a green lifestyle.
“In line with the ‘Green Economy for Sustainable Development’ initiative launched by HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, DEWA considers launching and managing various awareness campaigns as part of our overall strategy to implement the concept of rational consumption, and to raise awareness and promote sustainability in the Emirate of Dubai, in line with Dubai’s Integrated Energy Strategy 2030, aiming to reduce energy consumption by 30% by 2030. Moreover, DEWA contributes to the social, economic, and environmental development of Dubai, by providing uninterrupted and stable electricity and water services to achieve the growth vision of Dubai,” said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD and CEO of DEWA.
“The campaign is a part of DEWA’s initiatives and efforts to rationalise the use of natural resources, protect the environment, minimise carbon emissions, and provide innovative solutions for addressing global warming, to fulfill our social responsibilities, and achieve sustainability of natural resources for generations to come,”, added Al Tayer.
“Since its launch in 2009, the campaign achieved significant results in reducing consumption of electricity and water for DEWA’s customers in residential areas, which underlines our success in supporting the foundations of sustainable development in Dubai. Through this campaign, we aim to encourage Dubai residents to adopt best practices in the field of conserving energy.” said Khawla Al Mehairi, VP of Marketing & Corporate Communications of DEWA.
“The campaign team provides a range of important information and tips, for the entire family, to encourage them to support environment sustainability through rational use of electricity and water. The team invites the family to the DEWA’s bus to watch a presentation offered by experts from DEWA about the importance of conserving energy,”
“We provide our customers with interactive presentations about the importance and benefits of these practices. We also distribute eco-friendly lighting bulbs, water flow reducers, and other tools of rationalization to residents free of charge,” said Amal Koshak, Senior Marketing Communication Manager at DEWA.
The campaign is supported by Dubai Police, and covers various areas in Dubai including: Al Rashidiya, Zabeel, Al Jafilya, Al Qouz, Al Mnakhool, Al Tawar 1, Al Mamzar, Al Barsha 1, Al Qusais 1, Umm Suqaim 2, Al Manara, Umm El Sheif, Nad Shamma, Al Warqaa 1-2-4, Al Sufooh, Hor Al Anz, Jumeirah 1, Al Khawanij 3, Jumeirah Beach Residence, Al Bedaa, and Arabian Ranches.
Last year, the Neighborhood Campaign managed to save 1.34 million Kilo Watts of electricity, 14.5 million gallons of water and AED 1.1 million, and reduced 806 tons of carbon emission.
