RTA Honours Winners Of 5th Dubai Award For Sustainable Transport
217% increase in the number of submissions made between 2008 and 2012: Al Tayer
Under the aegis of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Executive Council, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) honours today (Tuesday) the winning institutions and companies of 5th edition of the Dubai Award for Sustainable Transport (DAST) 2012. The Award aims to educate and encourage the community institutions to play an active and positive role in sustainable transport, emphasize RTA’s pioneering role in activating partnership and cooperation with various institutions, and incorporate the issue of sustainable transport into the main concerns of institutions and the local media.
H.E. Park Won Sun, Mayor of Seoul, will be the guest of honour and the keynote speaker at the opening ceremony, where he will review the South Korean government’s efforts in achieving sustainable development and promoting Green Growth in Asia.
H.E. Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board and Executive Director of Roads and Transport Authority, was delighted with the great advancement made by the Award since launched in 2008, be it in terms of increased number of Award categories & participants or expansion of the Award’s geographic scope. The number of categories has also soared from 3 in the 1st edition to 7 in the 5th edition, with 133% increase. The number of applicants for the Award from different emirates has also increased rapidly from 28 in 2008 to 89 in 2012, recording in the process a 217% growth. 15 awards will be distributed in the 5th edition, compared to 9 in the inaugural round, showing an increase of 67%. The number of sponsors has gone up from 9 in the 1st first edition to 5 in the 5th edition, and the Award’ value has rocketed from AED 1 million in the 1st edition to nearly AED 6 million in the 5th edition.
Al Tayer said that all applications accepted and conforming to with the terms of the Award had been assessed by the jury panel based on accurate and detailed assessment criteria as per pre-approved weights and grades for each of the main and sub-criteria in order to ensure accuracy, objectivity and justice to all submissions made. He noted that the applications received had undergone an appraisal process over 7 basic steps starting with the receipt of the applications, revalidating & ensuring completeness and finishing with submitting the final results of the assessment.
