Dubai Municipality gears its apparatus up for organizing of Clean Desert drive
Stressing the importance and environmental values of desert lands in the Emirate, Dubai Municipality is gearing its apparatus up for the organizing of Clean Desert drive, notably, for the third consecutive year.
The drive organized under the theme ’Leave the place clean for others to enjoy it’ will be kicked off on 26th February and will continue its activities up to 9th of March.
While speaking on the drive, Eng. Salah Amiri, Assistant Director General, Dubai Municipality said deserts are considered as the most important areas in Dubai culturally and environmentally.
"Desert claims the lion’s share of our environmentally important areas in the Emirate. Rather, We see it as the part and parcel of our culture and tradition; so, we strive to protect it by any possible means," he said.
He said, "The campaign is designed to spread the spirit of seeing deserts as part of the life as well as to boost up civic body’s varied efforts to keep them clean, practically."
"Last time, the campaign gained widespread participation and applause which entitled it win the Best Green Drive award constituted by Ideas America, based in Texas," he added.
According to him, "Last time near about 8500 volunteers participated in the event and some 864 ton of waste was collected and duly transported to landfills."
Eng. Abdul Majeed Saifaie, Director, DM Waste Management Department, said, "Awareness activities and clean up drive will mostly concentrate in Al Warqa area."
Various schools, colleges and voluntary organizations will take part in the activities along with employees of the civic body. "A special team to book those who violate the rules and regulations to be followed while enjoying in desert areas, also assigned to patrol on the days of the campaign," he added saying.
