European Commission Selects HP to Provide Mission-critical Servers
HP Integrity servers available to 13 European Union institutions, agencies and bodies for large-scale applications
Hewlett-Packard Belgium B.V.B.A/SPRL today announced that, through the open Call for Tenders—DIGIT/R2/PO/2011/038—Mainframe data servers III, it has been selected by the European Commission (EC) to supply HP Integrity servers and related offerings to support critical workloads, including database-intensive applications and other critical environments, across multiple EC countries.
Under the terms of the framework agreement (DI/07120), participating European Union (EU) institutions, agencies and bodies will now be able to acquire new HP Integrity servers based on the Intel® Itanium® processor running HP-UX 11i v3.
One of the steps of the technical evaluation required benchmark tests to be carried out at HP’s Europe, Middle East and Africa region (EMEA) Performance Centre in Böblingen, Germany. According to the awarding criteria published in the tendering specifications, HP’s offer represented the best quality-to-price ratio.
“Fuelled by trends in cloud computing, big data and mobility, mission-critical demands are evolving and increasing,” said Ric Lewis, vice president and interim general manager, Business Critical Systems, HP “HP Integrity servers with the HP-UX operating environment will allow the contracting authorities to continue to confidently deploy mission-critical solutions with high levels of reliability, performance and efficiency.”(1)
In addition to mission-critical HP Integrity servers, HP will provide associated equipment, including software. HP Technology Services also will deliver services and support, including maintenance and professional services.
HP Integrity servers and the HP-UX operating environment are part of HP Converged Infrastructure, which simplifies and unifies IT with a common, modular portfolio of mission-critical systems engineered to deliver high availability, scalability and resiliency for enterprises’ most demanding workloads.
HP Integrity servers are now available for deployment at EC and European Parliament sites in Brussels and Luxembourg as well as Joint Research Centre sites in Belgium, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands and Spain. Other institutions located in various EU member states also will be able to take advantage of these new mission-critical systems.
