DWTC Named World's Leading Meetings & Conference Centre At World Travel Awards 2013

Holds Off Global Competition To Scoop Prestigious Accolade For Third Time

Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) was named the ‘World’s Leading Meetings & Conference Centre’at last night’sWorld Travel Awards (WTA) Grand Final Ceremony 2013, beating off stiff competition from a raft of the globe’s top venues.

The news comes hard on the heels of Dubai’s successful campaign to host Expo 2020, further cementing the emirate’s reputation on the world stageas a premier destination for international conferences, exhibitions and events.

“As the awards are voted for by the global industry, this is a major endorsement of our unwavering commitment to excellence and is also testament to our continuous endeavour to position DWTC as the region’s power centre for trade and business tourism,” said Ahmad Al Khaja, Senior Vice President – Venues, Dubai World Trade Centre. “The vast depth of industry-leading tradeshows, events and conferences we host and organise have played a crucial role the growth of Dubai’s business tourism sector and we expect to see this continue to go from strength to strength over the coming years.”

It is thethird time that DWTC, which is on track for a record-breaking 2013, has won the award in the last seven years, underlining its standing internationally against other best-in-class venues from the USA, England, Germany, UAE, South Africa and Singapore.

DWTC this year has hostedhundreds of events across a spectrum of key industries, such as finance, technology, healthcare, energy, food and education. DWTC was also behind the region’s first tradeshow dedicated to the music industry, Dubai Music Week, as well as the region’s largest summer indoor sporting arena, Dubai Sports World. Footfall in 2013 is expected to exceed last year’s record of 1.85 million visitorsto the venue.

DWTC has also seen robust growth across its key business streams – Venues, Hospitality, Event Serve and Weddings – as it continues to diversify its offering.

The World Travel Awards acknowledge, reward and celebrate excellence across all sectors of the global travel and tourism industry.Held in Doha this year, the event was attended by prominent international industry leaders from across the globe.
