From Sky To Sea - Sharjah Museums Department Promises An Exciting December Line-Up Of Educational Activities
Visitors to Al Mahatta Museum and Sharjah Aquarium can expect to enjoy a fascinating set of educational activities this December, with something for all age groups at both these Museums.
An action packed four-day itinerary, set to be educational, engaging and entertaining, and with a keen focus on ecological and social consciousness, has been planned. From developing their creative and artistic talents and learning new skills, to helping keep beaches pristine and acquiring knowledge about responsible fishing - children, teenagers and their parents can look forward to an enjoyable and educational experience.
The programme will take place on 23 and 24 December at Al Mahatta Museum, which will celebrate the UAE’s first airport while providing an intriguing glimpse into what air travel was like eight decades ago.
The programme at Al Mahatta Museum will be tailored to each group attending. Children aged 3-6 are invited, alongside their parents, to participate in designing a costume for one of the planes in the museum in the Imaginative Station on day one, and will learn about different bird species, and even enjoy making their favourite bird on day two.
7-13 year-olds and their parents have the opportunity to plant flowers in the museum’s garden and learn about Abbas Bin Firnas, an Arab aviator, engineer and inventor, and other marvellous stories about flying. Children will also get to create their own set of wings. Over 16’s are welcome to participate in the journey to learn intriguing stories and facts about the UAE’s first airport, after which they will use their knowledge to create their own plane, using the art of paper quilling, over the two days.
Visitors with disabilities and their parents and caregivers are invited to create their own frame, inspired by Al Mahatta Museum, by using materials from the surrounding environment. The young ones will learn how to create their own three-dimensional picture wearing a cabin crew costume and using recyclable materials.
SMD’s busy itinerary takes visitors to experience different environments as well. From climate high up in the air to deep under the oceans at the Sharjah Aquarium, the programme will continue on 25 and 26 December.
3-6 year-olds and their parents can enjoy taking part in a role-play about the sea and the risks facing the environment caused by factors such as pollution. The programme will also help hone their artistic skills by the use of splashing colours to draw the different kinds of fish, such as the popular movie character ’Nemo’.
7-13 year-olds and their parents will be asked to think more deeply about the dangers that face the fish of the Gulf Sea - and the grouper in particular. December 19th will be centred around social awareness; cleaning the magnificent Al Khan beach from wastes that destroy its beauty, and then using these to create a unique and beautiful work of art.
Those aged 16 and above will enjoy the beach surroundings while also learning something practical for their studies. They will collect scattered shells from the sands of Al Khan beach and then design their own stationery.
Visitors with disabilities are invited to learn about the most beautiful sea creatures at Sharjah Aquarium and create puppets using natural materials taken from the surrounding environment on day one. They will also collect the scattered seashells and stones on Al Khan beach to decorate their artwork the following day.
