• Sharjah Science Museum Hosts Raytheon's Interactive Math Alive! Exhibition, In Conjunction With Khalifa University

Raytheon’s interactive MathAlive! exhibition opened at the Sharjah Science Museum today, officially launched by His Excellency Saeed Musbah Al Kaabi, director of the Sharjah Educational Zone.

In partnership with the Sharjah Department of Museums, the ground-breaking traveling exhibition is designed to inspire and spark student’simaginations, and runs until 12 January 2014.

“As a global technology leader, Raytheon understands how important math and science skills are to every nation’s future, including the United Arab Emirates,” said Matt Riddle, president, Raytheon International Inc. “I hope that bringing our exciting MathAlive! exhibition to venues such as the Sharjah Science Museum extends and deepens our 50-year regional relationship in new ways and helps inspire the next generation of students to pursue math and science related technology careers.”

MathAlive! is scheduled to travel through the Middle East over the next five years. It is primarily designed for students aged 7 - 14 and will bring to life the real math behind what kids love most – video games, sports, design, music, robotics, and more – by creating an interactive and immersive experience.

“Encouraging our youth to be more involved in mathematics and science is essential for the advancement of our country, and as this delightful exhibition illustrates, these subjects can be both fascinating and fun,” said Director-General, ManalAtaya, of the Sharjah Museums Department. “Sharjah Science Museum is an institution for the sciences in the emirate of Sharjah and the perfect venue for the MathAlive! experience.”

MathAlive! is aimed at providing direct support for the successful growth and development of the Middle East’s technology industrial base, helping to inspire young students in the region to develop an interest in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, and encourage them to pursue related careers.

“Khalifa University is proud to support such an exciting and worthwhile event,” said Dr. Ali Dawood, Khalifa University’s assistant director, Sharjah Campus. “We are dedicated to inspiring creativity and innovation in the UAE and hosting events like MathAlive! is one of the ways we can do this. It’s very important to attract today’s young people to careers in science and technology, because that is where the future lies and what the UAE needs to be a world leader.”

Presented in Arabic as well as in English, the 465 square meterexhibition contains exciting content relating to mathematics at work around the world. It also highlights historical achievements of Gulf region mathematicians, as well as people from the Middle East who apply science, technology, engineering, and math studies to their current careers.

MathAlive! will be open Sundays through Thursdays from 08:00 - 14:00, and from 16:00 - 20:00 on Fridays and Saturdays.
