GEMS Royal Dubai School Celebrates Arabic Language Day
As a part of the UN celebrations marking the International Arabic Language Day, GEMS Royal Dubai School had organized a number of educational and cultural programmesfor students across all grades.
The activities included a 10 minute-Arabic only speaking period, Arabic storytelling, finding words roots in Arabic lexicons, competition to search English words with an Arabic origin, workshops to learn Arabic writing skills, video clips about the historical development of the Arabic language, parents and student book fair and defining countries speaking the Arabic language on the world map.
Mr. Kevin Loft, GEMS Royal Dubai School Principal, said: “We all need to support and promote the world Arabic Language Day as the best we can, all classes participated in a total of 30 minutes of their own choice activities that best suite all age categories and interestsâ€.
“Inspired by the vision and instructions of His Highness, Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid AlMaktoum, UAE Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai, to give a special attention to teaching Arabic language, GEMS Royal School decided to annually celebrate the world Arabic Language Day and to develop the accompanying activities,â€Loft added.
As a part of its role to promote multilingualism and cultural diversity, UNESCO has chosen December 18th as the world Arabic language Day, as it is the day on which UN General Assembly approved the Arabic language as one of the UN’s six official languages in 1973.
