UAE public, private sectors to get one day holiday to mark Prophet's birthday
UAE ministries and Federal departments to remain closed on January 12, Sunday while for the private sector it is either Saturday or Sunday, based on their weekends
Abu Dhabi: Ministries and Federal Departments will remain closed on Sunday, 11th of Rabi Al Awwal, 1435 Hijri, corresponding to January 12th of 2014, to mark the birth anniversary of the Prophet Mohammad (PBUH).
The public holiday was announced through a circular issued today by Humaid Mohammad Obaid Al Qattami, Minister of Education and Chairman of the Board of the Federal Authority for Human Resources (FAHR).
Private sector
The private sector in the country will get a one day paid holiday to mark the birth anniversary of the Prophet Mohammad (PBUH), according to an official announcement from the Ministry of Labour.
Saqr Bin Ghobash Saeed Ghobash, Minister of Labour, has issued a circular which advises that all workers in the private sector who have Friday only as their weekend, will receive Saturday, 11th of January as an official paid holiday.
Similarly, all workers in the private sector whose weekend falls on Friday and Saturday, will receive Sunday, 12th of January, as their official paid holiday.
