Dubai Duty Free Proud Patron Of Omega Dubai Desert Classic
Dubai Duty Free (DDF) has signed up a fresh contract with golf in DUBAi, reaffirming their role as a patron of the Omega Dubai Desert Classic for a further three years in a move that reflects the award-winning airport retailers’ commitment to supporting Dubai’s rapid expansion as a major global commercial and sporting destination.
The contract, effective 2014, takes on special significance as it coincides with Dubai Duty Free celebrating its 30th anniversary and the Omega Dubai Desert Classic its 25th, their respective milestone mirroring the meteoric growth of the city.
While the brand Dubai Duty Free is now synonymous with its own ATP and WTA tournaments at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Stadium, the company has been a key supporter of all major sporting events in the Emirate, including the world-famous Dubai World Cup and the Dubai Rugby 7s from the outset.
Golf plays equally an important role in Dubai Duty Free’s drive to maintain an aggressive profile through a range of sponsorships on the greens of the Emirate. It is also a corporate patron of the Emirates Golf Federation and sponsors the Dubai Duty Free UAE Nationals Cup, Dubai Duty Free Golf Cup and the Dubai Duty Free Seniors Cup.
“We are delighted to continue our association with golf in DUBAi, the promoters and organizers of world-class events like the Omega Dubai Desert Classic which have been a catalyst for putting the city of the world sporting map and promoting the game across the region,†said Colm McLoughlin, Executive Vice Chairman of Dubai Duty Free.
“By supporting so many events at the highest level and all around the globe, Dubai Duty Free is effectively promoting Dubai’s sporting, leisure and business facilities, which are second to none,†he said.
“And with more and more world-class sportspeople choosing Dubai to showcase their talent, there is set to be much more to come in the future,†said McLoughlin, himself a keen golfer and a former captain of The Emirates Golf Club and Dubai Creek Golf Club.
The 25th edition of the event will see a galaxy of superstars led by world number one Tiger Woods, European number one Henrik Stenson and Northern Ireland’s Rory McIlroy along with other past champions descend on Dubai in what promises to be a fascinating contest.
“Today, Dubai is fondly referred to as the sporting capital of the region and it’s all because of the organizations like DDF have played a key role in promoting all world-class events in the emirates," said Mohamed Buamaim, vice-chairman and CEO of golf in DUBAi.
"The DDF logo is a familiar sight in all big sporting events in Dubai and that’s a tribute to the company’s commitment to further raise the profile of the emirate on the international level.
“It’s really a matter of pride for all of us at golf in DUBAi to see Dubai Duty Free, which is one of the biggest brand names in our country, continue to support our initiatives. We feel privileged to have them on board.â€
