Waldorf Astoria Ras Al Khaimah announces the opening of exciting Japanese restaurant, UMI. Discover a sophisticated and stunning new world of teppanyaki, sushi, sashimi and bubbling Sake whilst overlooking the Arabian Gulf.

Watch talented chefs showcase their oriental culinary magic, as they cook a selection of delicious beef, chicken and seafood dishes on the sizzling open Teppanyaki grill or sample the exquisite freshness of delicate sashimi. Guests are enchanted as they watch this creation of elegant and modern Japanese food unfold.

Boasting 20 years of experience cooking his native cuisine, Japanese Chef Kando leads a talented team of specialist chefs from across the globe. Their passion and flair can be seen in the creative range of dishes, which seamlessly blend traditional Japanese flavours with contemporary dining; a refined and rare menu befitting an exquisite dining room such as UMI.

UMI’s menu is packed with a vast selection of Japanese delicacies including Matsutake Chawan, Japanese Honjyou Wagyu Beef and Black Sesame Sponge & Yuzu Chiboust.

Set to be one of the trendiest restaurants in the UAE, UMI boasts a modern and inviting, interior withgleaming blackened pillars and chainmail clad walls, providing a striking backdrop for the leather furnishings. A floor to ceiling chandelier takes center stage within the smaller dining area, which offers a more an intimate environment perfect for couples.

The crowning glory of UMI is the private dining room; an exquisite bamboo accentuated room with a single modern refectory table and dazzling pink seating for 10 guests, perfect for intimate gatherings or special occasions.

At the bar, the low pale green seating provides the ideal place to sample UMI’s collection of over 80 blends of Sake,all of which are displayed on illuminatedcube shelving. The extensive range includes sparkling sake, Fukuju Awasaki and the unfiltered and cloudy Sake, Nigori. Alternatively, Japanese themed cocktails and mocktails, such as the Geisha Kiss and Japanese Royal can be enjoyed.

An evening at UMI is rounded off beautifully with a delicate collection of authentic Japanese teas, enjoyed overlooking the Arabian Gulf from the intimate Japanese balcony-garden. The TWG tea collection includes handpicked teas such as White Spring Tea and Oud Night Tea.

The Waldorf Astoria has already become a famed landmark on the Ras Al Khaimah coastline since it opened on 1 August 2013. With an impressive array of bespoke dining rooms, UMI is the latest addition to the already inspiring collection.
