Sheikh Zayed Institute For Pediatric Surgical Innovation To Lead Plans To Award $250,000 For Innovative Pediatric Medical Devices
The Sheikh Zayed Institute for Pediatric Surgical Innovation at Children’s National Medical Center based in Washington, D.C., and the University of Maryland A. James Clark School of Engineering have revealed that they are leading the plans of the National Capital Consortium for Pediatric Device Innovation to award $250,000 (Dh918,225) to US-based individuals and companies seeking to commercialize medical devices for use in children.
Earlier last year, the Sheikh Zayed Institute received a grant from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to form the National Capital Consortium for Pediatric Device Innovation (NCC-PDI). The $700,000 (Dh2.6 million) grant will be part of an anticipated five-year award. The NCC-PDI is a collaboration between Children’s National Medical Center and the University of Maryland A. James Clark School of Engineering.
Kolaleh Eskandanian, PhD, Executive Director of the Sheikh Zayed Institute for Pediatric Surgical Innovation said:
“By leading this initiative, the Sheikh Zayed Institute is demonstrating the importance of pediatric medical devices to improve the health of children. The biggest challenge is that because the market is so small, pediatric medical devices have not received the same attention as in the adult world.â€
