Dubai Silicon Oasis Successfully Completes Phase-1 Deployment Of Its Free Wi-fi Network
Dubai Silicon Oasis Authority (DSOA), the regulatory body for Dubai Silicon Oasis (DSO) has successfully deployed the first phase of its project that will make the integrated free zone technology park completely Wi-Fi Free enabled. Wi-Fi access is now live and available free of charge at the DSOA headquarters, the Cedre Shopping Centre, the Semmer Villas community centre, and their respective car parking areas. The milestone follows a recent agreement between DSO and EmiratesWifi to implement wireless internet throughout the hi-tech free zone. The second phase of the project is scheduled for completion in Q2 2014. Upon full execution of the agreement, DSO will become the first free zone in Dubai to deploy 24/7 free wireless internet throughout the 7.2 sq kms technology park. Engineer Muammar Al Katheeri, Executive Vice-President of Engineering Management at DSOA, said: "Making our premises entirely Wi-Fi free enabled marks an essential step forward in transforming Dubai Silicon Oasis into a smart city in accordance with the directives of our leadership. We are confident that the provision of free Wi-Fi will add significant value to the visitors and residents of DSO." EmiratesWifi is mandated to install, commission, and maintain the wireless infrastructure and access points, as well as provide support with software solutions for control over the bandwidth of the service that will cover all public areas in Dubai Silicon Oasis. A wholly-owned entity of the Dubai government, Dubai Silicon Oasis operates as a free zone technology park for the semiconductor, microelectronic and other high technology-based companies looking to set up their regional headquarters, as well as research and development facilities in the Middle East and North Africa region.
