YAS Island Eyes Local Market For Growth

Abu Dhabi has witnessed an almost 33% growth in UAE visitors in the past year. An increasing number of UAE residents are now shifting away from the traditional overseas vacations, and are choosing to take their vacations close to home.

The figures, provided by the Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority (TCA), have prompted Yas Island’s hotels and attractions to work collaboratively to develop and launch the “Yas for Families” campaign and create special initiatives tailored for families of all sizes. Unique offers include package deals involving hotels and attractions and sporting activities family members of all ages can enjoy.

Commenting on Yas Island’s current focus, Ms. Jida Itani, Senior Coordinator of Yas Island Destination Management, said:

“The Yas Island Family identified the increasing demand from the local and regional market and worked together to create packages and special offers that would further encourage families to explore a world-class location right in their own backyards. Growth in the tourism sector is an important element of the Emirates’ development strategy and Yas Island is committed to supporting Abu Dhabi’s greater vision by enhancing the diversity of tourism options within the Emirates, directly contributing to the progression of a vital local industry.”

Yas Island is also seeking to tap into the younger generation. Its diverse attractions, nightlife and sporting activities are becoming increasingly popular with local young professionals and couples. Beyond the entertainment options, Yas Island runs a series of programs focused on helping families have fun while keeping fit. These programmes include Train Yas, which gives families access to train on the race track every Tuesday. Sports and fitness enthusiasts can also participate in beach yoga, volleyball and soccer.

To appeal to the youngest members of the family, Yas Island is hosting the first ever Disney Live! Mickey’s Music Festival starting 26th February and running through 2nd March 2014 at the du Forum. The 1.5-hour live stage show will have mums, dads, aunts, uncles, brothers and sisters on their feet dancing as Mickey and his friends combine original music with modern hip hop, pop, swing, reggae, rock & country music. During the Disney Live! Mickey’s Music Festival, a complimentary shuttle bus service will be providing free transport to guests before and after the show, to and from various locations on Yas Island including, du Forum, Yas Marina, Yas Plaza and Yas Viceroy.
