University Of Dubai Starts Work On New Premises Ground-Breaking Ceremony Takes Place In The Presence Of The Chairman Of Dubai Chamber
University of Dubai, one of the leading higher education institutions in the United Arab Emirates, today announced the ground-breaking for its new premises located at Dubai Academic City.
The ground-breaking ceremony took place in the presence of H.E. Abdul Rahman Saif Al Ghurair, Chairman of Dubai Chamber; H.E. Majid Hamad Al Shamsi, Chairman, Board of Trustees of University of Dubai; and Dr. Eesa Bastaki, President, University of Dubai, as well as members of the university’s teaching and administrative staff.
“With the ground-breaking of the new campus, Dubai Chamber has come a long way since we launched the University of Dubai in 1997 as a major initiative in the education sector. The new premises are an investment for the future, particularly the future of our sons and daughters, and the future of the business environment in Dubai,†said H.E. Abdul Rahman Saif Al Ghurair, Chairman of Dubai Chamber.
H.E. Ghurair said: "Over these years, we have succeeded in creating future leaders who are now contributing to the process of sustainable development. And today, with the ground-breaking of the new campus, we are entering a new stage in our growth story. The new campus will be equipped to meet the requirements of the next phase of educational development, offering rich experiences for the students. It will help us achieve our vision of providing higher education within the highest global academic standards and creating a conducive educational environment to equip the leaders of the future.â€
Dr. Eesa Bastaki, President, University of Dubai, said: "The ground-breaking of the new campus of University of Dubai comes in line with the strategic goals of the University which aims to enrich and develop the knowledge and academic sector. It also reflects our constant support for higher education. We are aware of the importance of providing an innovative educational environment that will generate talents capable of contributing to innovation and knowledge as the foundations for sustainable economy.â€
"The new campus will raise the capacity of the students and the development of modern educational capabilities by adopting the latest teaching aids, which will create a highly qualified generation who will be well qualified to take on the current and future market needs and strengthen Dubai's position as a leader in various sectors of business,†Dr. Eesa Bastaki said.
The first phase of the new campus will be built on an area of 22,270 sq. m. with a capacity to serve up to 1,500 students. The new premises will be equipped with a range of facilities including computer and language labs, rooms for debates, seminars and case studies, a library and breakout and study areas and conference room. Construction work will be completed in several stages with the first phase covering the University Centre, College of Business and College of IT, which will be completed and ready to operate for the start of the 2015 academic year. The new campus has been designed according to green building standards and will be the only university in the region to be LEED certified once completed.
University of Dubai became the first private University in Dubai to get the AACSB international accreditation in 2009. It is also the first private university in the UAE to hold the ABET-CAC accreditation for its Computing and Information Systems (BS) program.
