June Workshops At Sharjah Museums Bring Children, Teenagers, Adults And People With Special Needs Together
Sharjah Museums Department(SMD) is organising five new workshops in June,as part of its monthly educational programme, aligned with SMD’s mission to achieve locally and internationally an understanding, appreciation and respect for Sharjah’s identity and for the value of its cultural and natural heritage.
The new workshops will address a variety of subjects including marine species, Arabic calligraphy, mosaic art and local industries, making available a swath of knowledge to the public on subjects where access to expert teaching may not typically be available. These workshops will be held at Sharjah Aquarium, Sharjah Art Museum, and Sharjah Science Museum – and are organised under the supervision of education specialists from Sharjah Museums Department (SMD).
On 7 June, the Sharjah Aquarium held a workshop entitled’My Sea Creatures’, designed to engage children from 3-6 years of age and their families. Participating families learnt about marine creatures such asthe clown fish and starfish, and their characteristics. Participants in the workshop will get the chance to print their favorite marine animalson paintings they have drawn inspired by their observations of various marine creatures at the Aquarium.
Also as part of the June activities, on June 11Sharjah Art Museum helda workshop entitled ‘Arabic Calligraphy’. The event targetedyoung adults aged 16 and above, who were looking to acquire knowledge and skills about Arabic calligraphy and the special artistic features of classical Arabic fonts. Participants taking part went away with a rudimentary but valuable understanding ofArabic calligraphy’s rules, font types, and the characteristics and history of each.
On June 14, the Sharjah Aquarium will host another workshop titled ‘Mosaic Art’ aimed at developing artistic skills. Designed forchildren aged 7-13 years with their parents and including a variety of activities, participants will finish the workshop with a world-of-the-seas tour in the corridors of theAquarium and discover the exotic and beautiful marine creatures such as the lion fish, the Picasso fish, and much more.
On 18 June the Sharjah Science Museum will host a workshop titled ’Ice Cream’for participants aged 16 and above. Participants will learn how to make healthy ice cream using nitrogen with the famouslocal Emirati flavors by adding certain key ingredientswithin minutes and enjoy a very special experience of ice cream making.
June programmeswill be concluded on 21 June at the Sharjah Aquarium with the ’My Seashells‘workshop dedicated to people with disabilities and their families, who will learn various skills such as making handcrafts and souvenirs using seashells.
All workshops start at 10am.
