Thuraya Launches Its First Ruggedized Satellite Broadband Terminal With MIL-Speccomponents
Thuraya Telecommunications Company, a leading Mobile Satellite Services (MSS) operator,today announced the launch of the Thuraya IP Commander, its first ruggedized satellite broadband terminal designed using MIL-SPEC components.The terminal will becommercially available from all Thuraya Service Partners in Q3, 2014.
Developed in collaboration with US-based SRT Wireless, the IP Commander is engineeredto enable mission-critical voice and data connectivityin mobile or stationary applications in the most extreme and remote environments. It is well suited for military and governmental operations, as well as other applications including land mobile, energy and mining.The package includes a rugged voice handset that offers clearand uninterrupted voice connectivity across Thuraya’s satellite network,which coversmany of the world’s strategic conflict zones.
IP Commander facilitates vital communications at high speeds, essential for C4ISR, blue-force tracking, logistics management and tactical command. Offering IP data rates of up to 444kbps, it is Thuraya’s only ruggedized vehicular terminal capable of achieving streaming IP speeds of up to 384kbps, as well as user-definable asymmetric streaming functionality.
