International Charity Targets The UAE With The Launch Of UAE Smile Month
The International Dental Health Foundation (IDHF) has launched the first UAE Smile Month, an oral health awareness campaign emphasising the importance of a healthy smile.
The UAE Smile Month campaign is focusing on three main points aimed at helping people reduce oral healthcare complications: brushing teeth for two minutes twice daily with a fluoride toothpaste; cutting down on high sugar foods and drinks; and regular visits to the dentist for check-ups. By following these simple steps, it is possible to have a healthy, happy smile, which lasts a lifetime.
“As a dental healthcare professional it is distressing to see a significant prevalence of dental disease in the UAE,†says Victoria Wilson, Dental Hygienist at Dr. Roze and Associates Dental Clinic in Dubai. “I have seen children as young as three suffering from major tooth decay and in some cases having to deal with tooth extractions as well.
“It is very exciting to have the IDHF involved in the UAE community for promoting oral health awareness,†continues Wilson. “With the years of experience behind IDHF, it takes the campaign to an International level and with the fine support of the UAE’s professionals, we can work together to better achieve our goals.â€
Wilson has been an avid proponent for the prevention of mouth cancer in the UAE, a campaign that is also promoted by the IDHF, the organisers of “Mouth Cancer Action Month†in the UK, along with an extensive portfolio of similar awareness events.
Smile Month is programme designed to encourage dental and healthcare professionals as well as pharmacies to organise events and activities for clients to target health awareness and education. Community associations, businesses and schools have also been encouraged to host fun days, displays, discussions or competitions providing insight into the importance of maintaining good hygiene practices.
