Distinct Summer Holiday Experience Promised As SCTDA, Industry Representatives Meet
The Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority held a meeting with more than 35 representatives of luxury hotel establishments at the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry on Sunday to fine-tune special summer promotions and packages being offered to visitors ahead of the approaching holiday season. The meeting was hosted by Ms Maysoon Hassan Al Hosni, Manager, Tourism Standards Department.
At the meeting, SCTDA officials outlined plans for an agreement to cover special offers, promotions and discounted rates during the summer season for the Emirate's residents with a strategic vision of encouraging more domestic tourism through attracting more visitors from other emirates. Sharjah always has a packed calendar of events and activities every summer and once again, there are high expectations all around for a busy, bustling season.
The meeting discussed in detail the initiatives by Sharjah's hospitality industry to draw more visitors to the Emirate during the summer months. Every year thousands of families from neighbouring GCC and Arab countries visit Sharjah and the UAE during the summer vacations, especially as they also coincide with the activities of the holy month of Ramadan and Eid festivities.
With a wide choice of distinct tourist attractions, grand mosques, museums, cultural and shopping centres supported by an exciting programme of special events and religious-entertainment during this period, it is an ideal time to visit Sharjah.
Speaking on the occasion, HE Khalid Jassim Al Midfa, Director General, Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority , said that the Authority has been exerting constant efforts to support and promote the tourism sector in the emirate. In cooperation with the hotel industry, the Authority has been working to improve the industry standards and provide the best possible services and prices to guests, especially to those from within the Emirate.
Al Midfa expressed his satisfaction over the pace of growth of domestic tourism, which has registered remarkable progress in recent years with the domestic tourist occupancy ratio during the first quarter of this year rising by 26 per cent. Sharjah's hotels hosted 65,892 domestic tourists in the first quarter of this year while the number in the same period last year stood at 52,131 guests. Hotels in the Emirate registered an 11 per cent increase in the number of hotel guests during the first three months of this year.
The SCTDA , which is the regulatory body of the tourism industry in the emirate, regularly conducts a number of training workshops, meetings and special orientation tours for the executives and representatives of hotel industry in the emirate in order to strengthen the industry and attract more and more visitors to Sharjah.
