Introducing UAE Experience To International Arena
The National Qualifications Authority (NQA) participated in the UNESCO workshop on World Reference Levels of Learning Descriptors – the use of level descriptors in the 21stCentury, in Paris.
The workshop, brought together experts from the UAE, UK, Spain, Malaysia, South Africa, Germany, Costa Rica, the United States, and the Caribbean, discussed findings from UNESCO’s global study research outcomes on the development of world reference levels, and explored the possibility of developing international guidelines on quality assurance for the recognition of qualifications, based on learning outcomes, which will also facilitate the international comparison and recognition of TVET qualifications.
The research, to which the NQA contributed, involved a review of existing level descriptors at national and regional levels and the way they are used for defining learning outcomes and classifying qualifications. It also provided the basis for a first analysis of level descriptors and the learning outcomes terminology used in different countries and regions.
Representing NQA for the workshop, Mrs. Nourah Al Matrooshi, Director of Qualifications Framework Department, said “The UAE can definitely benefit from the introduction of world reference levels that would result in a high-level generic reference tool for countries. This tool would help many individuals who need equivalency of their overseas qualifications to secure employment in the UAEâ€.
Mrs. AlMatrooshi added that for this initiative to be successful there is a need to buy-in from governments, employers, and national education and training systems. Also, an international body to oversee and manage the development and implementation of world reference levels should be established.
