Al Gharbia Police Directorate Wins Cycling Championship
The Western Region (Al Gharbia) Police Directorate at the Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters was crowned the winner of the ADP Open Cycling Race Championship. The Security Information Department placed second, and the Operations Department placed third.
The championship was organized as a part of the sports activities program by the Sports Activity Section at the Directorate General of Strategy and Performance Development. A total of 82 cyclists from 17 departments participated in the championship that was held from April 5 – 8 in the Al Bahya Region. The championship drew a wide audience of Abu Dhabi Police members and public spectators.
Colonel Mohammed bin Dalmouj Al Dhaheri, Strategy and Performance Development Director General, said: “physical activity and sports are integral for our police members. Participation in activities such as the cycling championship not only develops the athleticism of our men and women, but it also positively impacts their mental and intellectual activity, enhances their professional performance, and fosters the spirit of competition in an atmosphere of camaraderie and sportsmanship.â€
He also noted that police work requires knowledge, skill, intelligence and experience. “In a bid to enhance the level of police performance, the police leadership is keen to develop these skills through various methods and practices by organizing such competitions,†he said.
The championship was attended by Captain Jamal Al Saadi, Head of Sports Activity Section, and Captain Saif Al Dhaheri, from the Sports Activity Section.
