Multiple road crashes stall Dubai traffic
Multiple accidents were reported in some parts of Dubai early Monday morning, creating congestion on major roads.
A collision in the Trade Centre Tunnel towards the direction of Jebel Ali was reported at 9:20am by Dubai Police, just three hours after a mishap occurred on Al Ittihad Road, after Dubai International Airport.
Traffic authorites in Abu Dhabi also reported that a car broke down on Shaikh Zayed Road "inside the Reem Island exit," causing serious tailbacks at past 7am.
No casualties or injuries have been reported so far, but motorists have been advised to proceed with caution.
Traffic has been particularly bad for many UAE residents since schools re-opened in September, after a long summer break. Road accidents, coupled with closures, have also contributed to congestions.
An estimated 1.6 million students returned to schools on the first day of class last September 2.
Congestions are at their worst usually in the beginning of the week, but Dubai commuters were still stuck in rush-hour traffic jams on Monday, with road delays lasting for ten to 13 minutes.
Delays were reported on E311 and Dubai-Sharjah Road as of 9:30am. By 10am, motorists driving near Emirates Towers, Trade Centre District and the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre were still stuck in extreme traffic.
